i recently dove into the world of video, head first. its something i had planned on doing for awhile. i figured with a photo degree, the transition would be easy....i would just be creating living photographs. and its true, my style and approach to motion picture is very similar to my still imagery. all except this one new and forgotten concept. AUDIO. i had to laugh....how could i have overlooked this amazing yet challenging element of video making?? besides creative overwhelm, i also felt the wonderment of a child when they consider trying something for the 1st time. the 'what if's...' and the 'could i's....'
i just recently got a chance to watch 'about a son', a documentary about Kurt Cobain. it was good timing on my part, im currently working a similar project style and this film offers alot of inspiration. because the director only had voice recordings to work with, there is a separation between audio and visual. the film is beautifully made and it explores the concept of utilizing independent recordings which gives the viewer a different experience. i enjoyed the unique sensation of not seeing the speaker and only hearing his words. its like eating with your eyes closed....
