speechless...

i was unaware that one of the most recognizable voices of our era was mute for most of his childhood. james earl jones went through several heart wrenching experiences as a child....leaving him unable to communicate until high school. an inspiring teacher pushed him to recite a poem he had written as an assignment. jones saw this as a challenge and performed it perfectly. this moment not only gave him the confidence to speak but also gave him the opportunity to discover theater. it goes to show the human heart is capable to demobilize as well as transcend our potential.

travelin spirit...

progress, like so many other things within time, can get swept under the rug feeling inconsequential. i enjoy the moments while traveling that stop in my tracks...haha 'tracks'...to notice the grandeur of humanity. i dunno...maybe im just feeling a typa way from the inauguration, but this moved me. I love this piece for its size, content and its location. This towering relief resides within 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, entitled, "The Spirit of Transportation" the piece "is represented in triumphal procession of progress led by a little child carrying a model of an airship, a prophetic vision of a mode of transportation to come."

who???...

is all i could wonder when i looked up in lower manhattan. i was struck by the juxtaposition of this little cottage-like dwelling upon the rooftop. i wondered, who?? who conceived of this project? who could afford to see it through?? and most compelling....who envisioned this tree-lined, domestic delight complete with chimney within the insanity of new york? maybe this is just the everyday to those existing in the new york state of mind.....but i was truly fascinated.

what is '20 minutes'?....

answer: the amount of time I peed my pants after hearing tina fey's acceptance speech at the golden globes. not only do i adore tina, but I have mad love for liz lemon too. more important than the speech is the fact that she makes it possible to be sexy yet goofy...also successful yet unassuming!! OH MAN...whada a gal.

...darla jackson aka aesop

has a way...with personifying animals to expose our most subtle and vulnerable human emotions through sculpture. when i view her work, i often think of the anecdote...'when you hear a truly great idea, it will register in you mind as common sense.' and let me tell you, she's full of it....common sense that is.

timeless...

an artist who is an 80's icon, obsessed with 50's pop, speaking to 70's feminism is FOREVER in my book!

understanding 'under first'....

Once I heard this preposition/adjective combo, I instantly liked it……it sounded like the answer to an puzzling riddle. But really….it’s much simpler than that. It’s where you will find the reverse gear in this beautiful car, I affectionately called, ‘senor blanco’. Not only was this the first car that made me proud to drive…but also the first ANYTHING that I bought from the profits of my art. I sold the biggest and most elaborate body of work that I had ever created. Letting it go was made much easier when this is what came in return. Underfirst serves as a bookmark to past, present and future inspiration.
