seperate the senses...
i recently dove into the world of video, head first. its something i had planned on doing for awhile. i figured with a photo degree, the transition would be easy....i would just be creating living photographs. and its true, my style and approach to motion picture is very similar to my still imagery. all except this one new and forgotten concept. AUDIO. i had to laugh....how could i have overlooked this amazing yet challenging element of video making?? besides creative overwhelm, i also felt the wonderment of a child when they consider trying something for the 1st time. the 'what if's...' and the 'could i's....'
i just recently got a chance to watch 'about a son', a documentary about Kurt Cobain. it was good timing on my part, im currently working a similar project style and this film offers alot of inspiration. because the director only had voice recordings to work with, there is a separation between audio and visual. the film is beautifully made and it explores the concept of utilizing independent recordings which gives the viewer a different experience. i enjoyed the unique sensation of not seeing the speaker and only hearing his words. its like eating with your eyes closed....

how do you...
accept the unacceptable? or make sense of senseless tragedy?
life can be unfair and you might not be able to find a purpose for the pain....but its in sorrow that joy earns its sweetness.

the road less traveled...
the artist, Roadsworth, started painting in reaction to the poor road conditions for bikers by creating his own bike paths. this activity developed into something both humorous and purposeful. because of the commitment to his vision, he has gotten arrested as well as commissioned based on these public works.

i was asked to create a different look for the already successful style -the "$18 plimsoll" for urbanoutfitters.com
i tested some techniques and came up with two styles. the black laceups are streaked with bleached and the white are splattered in paint. here are some before and afters...as well as the test series.

power of speech...
i have had some seriously moving conversations lately. i am a personal fan of chatting about...well? almost anything, haha!! so much so, that i have been accused of being too wordy or too sensitive. but all the criticism washes away when i connect with someone and it reaches beyond the ordinary and actual change is happening. there is a moment when im not the one speaking, and it is clear that there is a simple and human need to be understood. in most cases...its my conversation skills that are merely the doorway for someone else to start who otherwise didn't know where to begin....
